ASSIGNMENTS

The information on this page relates to the submission and requirements of your assignment.

All units require an assignment to be submitted. The assignment questions are included with the study guides. Some useful guidelines regarding the preparation of assignments are included in the Managing Your Study Booklet.

Assignments are to be submitted by all students for all units. Only students who have been granted a deferred examination are exempt from submitting an assignment in the following study period. If you are unsure please contact the Chifley Client Care Centre on 1300 853 377.

The purpose of the assignment is to:

  • widen the scope of assessment;
  • reduce weighting given to the final examination; and
  • provide participants with feedback on their performance during the study period.

With the exception of Unit 304 Business Planning for Innovation, assignments are worth 20%-40% and final examinations 60%-80%. This means that if you do not submit your assignment (say worth 20% of a unit) you will need to obtain 63% in the final exam to pass the unit (i.e. equivalent to 50 out of 80 marks).

Unit 304 has two assignments, the first worth 15% and the second worth 45%. The first assignment is due in the last week of March for Study Period 1 and the last week of August for Study Period 2. You must pass the assignment and exam component to pass this unit.

Three weeks after each due date (two weeks for Study Period 3), assignment commentary/answers from the unit chair will be posted on e-Communities for most units assignment. Marks and comments will be emailed directly to each student at this time.

REFERENCING

Please ensure you are clear on how to reference your assignment for each unit. Failure to reference correctly could result in failure of your assignment or loss of marks. If you are unsure how to reference we recommend you check with your Unit Chair on their expectations, as they can differ from unit to unit, and review the information provided in the Managing Your Study booklet available on e-Communities or the Student Community Home Page.

LATE ASSIGNMENT POLICY

  • Students can contact Chifley Business School not more than two weeks prior to the due date, to request an assignment extension. Students will be advised of the outcome within 24 (business) hours of their request. If supporting documentation is not submitted with the assignment final approval will not be granted.
  • Please note that on the rare occasion that your assignment is late, you must submit your assignment by email to mba@chifley.edu.au if the file size is less than 2Mb. Any late assignments for units 304 Business Planning for Innovation, 403 Managing Information Systems, 406 Corporate Finance or 501 Advanced Project Management will need to be mailed on a CD. Because of their file size, Chifley cannot receive these assignments via email.
  • Assignments received more than three weeks after the published due date will be returned unmarked. In Study Period 3, assignments received more than two weeks after the published due date will be returned unmarked.
  • Assignments submitted after the due date but prior to the three week cut-off period (two weeks for Study Period 3), must have a written reason, with supporting documentation, as to why the assignment was submitted late. It is also important that the number of days cited in the supporting evidence corresponds to the number of days that the assignment is late.
  • If your application to submit a late assignment is not approved prior to the due date you will be required to submit your assignment at the scheduled time of assignment submission closing. If you apply for approval after the due date and your assignment is not approved, your assignment marks will be held until after the final examination and will only be taken into consideration if your final exam mark is a marginal fail. Extenuating circumstances such as illness or personal crisis will be considered. However, being busy at work is not, by itself, sufficient reason to be late in submitting your assignment.
