FEE HELP

Financial assistance for postgraduate students

FEE-HELP is a Commonwealth Government loans scheme that assists eligible students to pay their tuition fees. FEE-HELP can cover all or part of a student's tuition fees, up to a lifetime limit of $50.000.

The FEE-HELP loans are repaid through the tax system once a student's income is above the minimum threshold for compulsory repayment.

Please note that the FEE-HELP scheme replaces the previous PELS scheme and is effective from 1 January 2005.

APESMA postgraduate students who are Australian citizens or who hold a permanent humanitarian visa and will be resident in Australia for the duration of the unit can apply to receive financial assistance under this scheme. Permanent Residence Visa holders are not eligible to apply for FEE-HELP*

* If you are a holder of a permanent visa (other than a permanent humanitarian visa), you would not normally be eligible for FEE-HELP for your postgraduate course. If you have already incurred a debt under PELS for your course, there are special arrangements to allow you to access FEE-HELP under the current PELS eligibility criteria until the end of 2008 or until you complete or discontinue your course.

Important Note For Overseas Students Applying For Fee-Help

Due to the new government legislation, overseas students are only able to obtain government assistance via FEE-HELP for their tuition fee. Overseas students enrolling in an APESMA unit are required to pay $150.00 per unit to cover additional administrative charges. This charge no longer forms part of the tuition fee under the new legislation. As a result this administrative charge is not covered by FEE-HELP and must be paid directly to Chifley Business School at the time of enrolment in a Study Period. This ruling comes into effect from Study Period 2, 2005.

It is important that you are aware of the following information if you withdraw or defer from any unit before 31st March, 2006 in Study Period 1, 2006, before 31st August, 2006 in Study Period 2, 2006 or before 30th November 2006 in Study Period 3, 2006.

If you withdraw or defer prior to these dates you WILL NOT incur a FEE-HELP debt. However if you withdraw or defer after these dates you WILL incur a FEE-HELP debt.

If you wish to apply for FEE-HELP or receive further information please contact the Client Care Centre for an application and booklet. Further information can be obtained from the Going to Uni website at: www.goingtouni.gov.au.
