DBA DISSERTATION

The object of the research component of the DBA will be to identify, analyse and propose solutions to complex issues confronting business through the application of knowledge, thereby improving professional practice and understanding. Candidates will report the findings of their research in a dissertation comprising a significant piece of applied work. It is expected that the dissertation will focus on work-based business or management issues. It is expected that the dissertation will have the support of the candidate’s organisation and should provide value to the organisation.

Charles Noble BCom, BEd, MEd, MA, PhD - Charles is Professor of Management in the Faculty of Commerce at Charles Sturt University. He has extensive management experience in higher education, including a term as Head of the School of Business at CSU and Campus Director and Dean of the School of Management and Technology at the Riverina-Murray Institute of Higher Education. Professor Noble is the Co-Director of the CSU Group for Research in Employment and Training (GREAT). Charles will be assisted in this subject by the following CSU staff:

  • Norm Philp BA, PhD - Norm Philp is Head of the School of Business and co-ordinates the MBA (Global Trade Management). The research paper from his PhD research was awarded the journalistic prize by the Australian Agricultural Economics Society. Dr Philp has published in economics, econometrics, international business, demography and educational administration. In 1991 he was a visiting professor within the Department of World Business at the American Graduate School of International Management (Thunderbird), Arizona. He is currently the recipient of a RIRDC grant to study the export orientation of food processing firms located in regional NSW and is involved in research on export development and international business education. Philp has had substantial experience in postgraduate teaching and research supervision.
  • Mark Farrell BA(Hons), MSc DipM, PhD - Dr Farrell is a senior lecturer in marketing and the Director of the MBA. Dr Farrell has worked in both marketing and advertising in the UK before commencing with CSU in 1991. Mark has taught a variety of subjects in marketing at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and is currently supervising doctoral candidates undertaking PhD and DBA studies. Research interests include marketing management, market orientation, industrial marketing and services marketing. Mark has published in leading marketing journals and presented several conference papers both within Australia and overseas. Mark has also undertaken consultancy assignments for local government and private sector organisations.
  • Alan Fish BBus, MCom, PhD, CMAHRI - Dr Fish is the Director of Postgraduate Studies in Human Resource Management, and was the previous Director of the International MBA program. Prior to commencing with CSU Dr Fish held a number of HRM positions in private industry over a ten year period. Alan has undertaken a number of consulting assignments in areas such as performance appraisal, staff selection, career management, training and development and international HRM for a wide variety of organisations. Dr Fish’s research interests include career management, manager mobility and international HRM. Dr Fish has published widely in a number of leading international journals, including Human Resource Management Australia, the International Journal of Career Management. In 1994 Alan receive an award for the best paper in the International Journal of Career Management.
  • Denise Jarratt BPharm, MCom(Marketing), PhD - Dr Jarratt is senior lecturer in marketing and Sub-Dean (Research) for the Faculty of Commerce. Dr Jarratt has worked extensively in industry and has owned and operated a retail business. While at CSU Dr Jarratt has undertaken a range of consulting projects in consumer behaviour, retailing and strategy for several private and public institutions. She has published in international journals and books.
  • Greg Walker MCom, DipEd, PhD - Dr Walker is Head of the School of Marketing and Management and senior lecturer in economics and finance. He was previously Course Co-ordinator in banking and finance and has extensive teaching experience in areas of financial economics, financial markets, international finance and banking. He has a BCom(Hon) and MCom degrees in economics and has a PhD in the economics of banking. He has published in textbooks and journals in economics, financial markets and banking.
